Marie the key to 'Lombardi'
No one should be surprised, then, that Marie has a strong role in "Lombardi," the drama that the Milwaukee Repertory Theater opens Oct. 14. Written by Wisconsin native Eric Simonson, it's adapted from David Maraniss' comprehensive biography, "When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi."
The production appears to be drawing an expanded audience to the Rep. "Advance sales for 'Lombardi' have been unprecedented for a Quadracci Powerhouse production," said Rep managing director Dawn Helsing Wolters in a statement. "More than 20,jordan shoes for women,000 people have already purchased tickets to see this show long before performances have even begun."
In the Broadway production of "Lombardi, longchamps sac," former Milwaukee Rep actress Judith Light earned a Tony nomination for her portrayal of Marie, likely a recognition both of her performance and of the complex role that Simonson has written.
For its production, the Rep paired veteran local actress Angela Iannone, who has a history of playing powerful women, as Marie with company member Lee E. Ernst as Vince.
Excited to get the call to work with Ernst and director Sanford Robbins, Iannone then read the script and thought, this could not be more perfect.
"I'm in the room with a bunch of fabulous men, christian louboutin shoes," she said. "How could this be bad? There is no losing in this prospect at all!"
Iannone called Ernst "one of those actors who's incredible at transforming himself and a marvelous mimic, and just really precise about how he creates an icon where people are going to be looking for things on their checklist."
Ernst has a bounty of video and audio on the late coach to study not to mention public perceptions of Lombardi to navigate. When Iannone looked for material on Marie to study, chaussures Louboutin femmes pas cher, she found a different situation.
"Well, there is about 35 seconds of Marie Lombardi on video and less than that on audio, chaussures Louboutin homme pas cher," she said, with a mixture of amusement and exasperation. Iannone has worked with dialect coach Jill Walmsley Zager to extrapolate Marie's voice and accent from that modest raw material.
"It's the New Jersey thing, but it's not 'Jersey Shore, air jordan 1,' Iannone said of Marie's voice. "She's a little classier. She's described in the text as regal New Jersey. Which the vocal coach and I have been spending a lot of time discovering exactly what that is.
"There's a little color in it,christian louboutin shoes, there's some of the sounds that we're familiar with and some of the R coloring, but not so much that we say, 'Snooki.' Maraniss describes it in his biography, Marie Planitz, the daughter of a German Catholic father and Irish Catholic mother, met Lombardi through her brother while Vince was a student and football player at Fordham University in New York.
"She was tall, blonde and blue eyed," Maraniss writes, with a figure that wowed the Fordham men.
Her father initially opposed the match because Lombardi's heritage was Italian, not the last time Lombardi would feel denigrated because of the vowel at the end of his name. Marie and Vince married in 1940, while he was a teacher and coach at a New Jersey Catholic high school.
Lombardi was a respected but not widely known assistant coach for the New York Giants when the Packers called in 1958. He had even considered leaving football for a job in banking,Louboutin pas cher homme, a notion toyed with in Simonson's play.
In a scene that will likely make Milwaukee audiences laugh, Marie reaches for an atlas when Vince gets serious about the possibility of moving to Green Bay:
"I can't find it anywhere. Oshkosh, Sheboygan, Kewaunee. Is it an Indian reservation?"
"Marie definitely was a strong woman to pick up and move, raise the family, make sure that his life was in place so that he could do what he needed to do," Iannone said.
Lombardi imposed his intensity and discipline on the Packers, chaussures Louboutin, coaching the team to five championships in the '60s, including the first two Super Bowl victories. Marie, Iannone said, was not a sports fan, but learned enough about football so "she could speak with Vince about his passions." She knew his plays, and watched footage with him at home.
She also served a crucial unofficial role as buffer between her hard charging husband and the players he coached. Paul Hornung claimed, Iannone pointed out, that players having trouble with the coach went to Marie, who would get Lombardi to back off a little.
"As contentious as her relationship with Vince could be,air jordan 11," Maraniss writes in "When Pride Still Mattered," "it was never more clear how much he needed her than when the Packers were on the road.
"She was an essential part of the team's winning dynamic. Marie could take Lombardi and give it to Lombardi like no one else, serving as both release valve and governor for his temper. Once she skipped a game in Texas and Lombardi turned so surly that the players beseeched her never to do that again. No problem: She truly enjoyed the traveling life and any opportunity to leave her remote northern outpost."
While Lombardi spent long hours coaching, Marie raised their son and daughter. She also endured the loss of an unborn infant and the death of another daughter shortly after birth. She began drinking heavily after the first death, Maraniss reports.
"She dealt with alcoholism and chronic depression, and then there were at least several suicide attempts," Iannone said.
"Marie in the biographies and resource materials talks about what Vince's list of important things was God, family and Green Bay Packers and she says, family (a) distant third and God isn't No. 1.
"When you are not a priority, that can be a very debilitating thing," Iannone said.
Of course, chaussure tn requin, Iannone pointed out, "this is a time when people drank like fish smoked like craziness.
"Those are chemicals. We know now they have an effect on mood and body chemistry and on how you deal with things, jordan shoes. That couldn't possibly have helped."????????

"They've got more style than any group we've ever had."Many came into the competition looking good. But that doesn't mean they can escape getting pointers from the show's stylists some more than others.Nadia Turner, Jackson says, is this season's strongest example of a style maven who needs little help.
