There are folks out there, though, who are trying to offer companies attractive diversion options, which can compete with cheap landfill. Plastic ingredient pails: Burke's part of the warehouse has a distinctly garlic aroma. Most of the pails go to a Quebec manufacturer, where they're turned into new pails.
Shrinkwrap: Tonnes are shipped to El Salvador to be made into more low density polyethylene film or laminate flooring.
Super sized sacks: Used to ship a ton each of sugar. Burke redeploys these for collecting and storing recyclables. Damaged sacks can be turned into polypropylene scraps for making textile.

Plastic strapping: It's made of PET, the same as drink bottles. Burke sells it to dealers for offshore markets.

Burke is of the view that "everything is recyclable." He has found markets for all kinds of plastics,air jordan 6, including agricultural wrap, fishing nets and rope, mixed plastics, single use grocery bags and expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam).
"There's huge demand out there," he says. "My time is spent trying to acquire material, and, ironically enough, 90 per cent of it is going into landfill."

Burke, who had meanwhile developed computer expertise, searched the Internet and found someone in Maryland who sold burlap bags to the oyster industry. The fellow would pay him 25 cents a bag. Burke had to argue with the coach to take at least 5 cents a sack.
Obviously, there was money to be made in recycling. When the peanut factory switched from burlap to Gaylords, Burke, who had acquired a truck and baler, began looking for other opportunities. One day, he was delivering paint to a plastic car bumper manufacturer,new jordan shoes, where he noticed a container of defective product destined for landfill.
He was told he could have the bumpers for free. "So I did my research and found out they were a valuable commodity." That put Burke onto plastics.
